An early goal from Joe Turner was cancelled out by a Matt Jones strike as storm Dennis ruined this game of football. A 9am pitch inspection passed and then after consulting both clubs match referee Joel Mannix stuck with the decision that the game should proceed in heavy rain and swirling wind which only got worse as the game went on.
Manager Ian Herring made three changes from the side that faced Dorking a week and a half ago. Baboucarr Jarra, Matt Jones and Conor Lynch came in for Bradley Webb, George Smith and Zidan Akers respectively. New signing Oliver Artwell started on the substitutes bench and came on for a brief cameo in the final stages.
Despite an early shot from Liam Ferdinand, Hungerford fell behind inside the first six minutes. Joe Turner headed in the first corner of the game for the hosts. After the goal Tonbridge sat off their opponents allowing them to dominate the ball and play out from the back. On a difficult surface Hungerford stuck to their principles and made some good attacking moves. Ralph Graham was on the end of a Joe Tomlinson cross but couldn't test goalkeeper Jonathan Henly. Baboucarr Jarra picked out Liam Ferdinand free inside the penalty area but the striker fired over. Graham once again met a Tomlinson cross but on a second occasion couldn't convert when well placed to score. Tomlinson was at the heart of attacking moves this time teeing up Ferdinand for his second chance of the game. After the full back did all the hard work, intercepting a pass and striding forward, Ferdinand striked straight at Henly.
The rain kept hammering it down and the gusty winds stayed strong. The conditions were certainly of help for the equaliser when Jones' corner kick went straight into the net. The corner came about when Ferdinand missed a golden chance from five yards out, not once but twice. The striker must have been one of the most relived persons on the pitch when Jones scored and wheeled away in celebration. With forty minutes left on the clock the goal provided a platform to win the game however Tonbridge stayed firm and Henly had no saves to make for the remainder of the game. The hosts rallied late on to find a winner mostly from set pieces but Patrick Ohman wasn't called into action. In the end Hungerford had to settle for a point away from home.
