Hungerford will make the 160 mile round trip to newbies Bognor Regis Town on Tuesday evening. The rocks who won promotion from the Ryman Premier league had started off well this campaign , unbeaten in their first 5 games.
They started out with a 3-2 win against Bath City, two draws away from home at Poole Town and Welling Utd, then a 6-2 demolishment over Whitehawk, before losing 2 games on the bounce, away to East Thurrock and then again at home on Bank Holiday Monday versus Eastbourne Borough. They however managed a good point drawing 0-0 away to league favourites Chelmsford City on Saturday.
In form Striker Ollie Pearce who has scored 4 in 6 games for the Rocks this season is hopeful of winning his fitness battle in time for our visit having to sit out the game against Chelmsford in what is reported to be a groin strain. The "Nye Camp" favourite is said to be "50/50" to feature on Tuesday night. The Rocks have also taken striker Chinedu McKenzie on loan from Maidenhead Utd, who played 55 minutes in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Chelmsford.
Returning from injury on Saturday, Influential midfielder Doug Tuck and Jimmy Muitt who will be inline for starts on Tuesday night.
The Crusaders have turned their misfortune round after 4 defeats on the bounce beating old foes Poole Town for the first time in 4 years at the Black Gold Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday and then a convincing 2-0 win yesterday at home to Concord Rangers.
Boardman and Herring have made three additions to the side since the recent mass departures of all the coaching staff and players, Day, Williams, Bentley and Ngamvoulou. Bringing in the experienced Gary Macdonald as Assistant Manager and adding central defender Gareth Thomas and box to box midfielder Jordan Simpson on loan from Forest Green. Thomas was solid on his National League South debut, helping the Crusaders maintain a clean sheet along with loanee Keeper, Lewis Ward, who saved a penalty and made a crucial double save in the closing minutes. Simpson got his first taste of National League football also, coming on as a substitute during the second half and immediately made an impact with two precision passes putting in Luke Hopper on goal, the second one leading to Bignall scoring to make it 2-0 after 81 minutes.
Boardman and Herring worth both over the moon to get the result and were really pleased with their teams performance.
Boardman said "Another great result today (Saturday) and we are really pleased with the players performance, you can't fault their efforts all over the pitch. We go into Tuesday a little bit unknown, not having played at Bognor before, but we will set up like we do for each game and go for the win" It is still early in the season to judge teams on who beats who, but they have got as many points as us and so we must take them seriously"
