It was a much needed win for Hungerford against bottom side Marlow. Danny Robinson keeping faith with the side that knocked Slough out of the Berks and Bucks cup midweek, with the only change Matt Berry-Hargreaves in for George Smith.
The first half chance for Hungerford fell to Joe Shepherd whose shot stung the palms of Marlow’s keeper Watkins.
Kyle Tooze who recently returned to Hungerford opened the scoring tapping in a Shepherd cross on 18 minutes. Two minutes later it was Tooze again causing problems as he was fouled in the box. A penalty was awarded and Hungerford skipper Louis McGrory converted the penalty smashing the ball out of Watkins reach .
Brad Hooper saw a long range shot sail just over the bar on the half hour and then Dawid Regula almost made it three when put clean through but the on rushing Watkins closed him down to save.
Marlows attack was centered around Elijah Oladunjoye dangerous long throws into the box but Hungerford defenders lead by Babz Jarra managed to hold firm and prevent any attempts on Ryan Clarkes goal.
The second half was scrappy until midway through the half Regula broke and squared the ball to Brandon Curtis in the box who struck the ball wide with the goal at his mercy .
Hungerford did seal the game moments later however via Jarra who brilliantly headed in a McGrory free kick.
Another Hungerford defender Luke Softley headed in Hungerford’s forth on 80 minutes from a Ramarni Medford-Smith cross to really finish off the game and give the scoreline the polish it really deserved .
There was time for Ryan Clarke to save a penalty from Jose Sani in the dying seconds. In the end a much needed win for the home team, who will face stiffer tests to their new found form over the festive period but this was a promising turn in fortune.
