It was a tight first half where Ryan Clarke was probably the busier keeper producing a couple of good saves, one notable stop of a one on one breakaway in particular. Babz Jarra had Hungerford’s best chance powering a header at goal and forcing a good save from Ascot’s ex Hungerford keeper Mark Scott. Ultimately though it was goalless at half time.
The second half was a 100 mile an hour end to end game. Ascot took the lead in the 54 minute but Hungerford struck back just 2 minutes later Jose Marquez gobbling up a spilled shot and converting his 4th goal in as many games. Ascot took the lead again in the 63rd minute from a disputed penalty but this time it only took a minute for Hungerford to equalise Joe Shepherd powering home a shot from the edge of the box.
It took fewer than six more minutes for Hungerford to actually take the lead, Anthony Dwyer with a run and finish that was too good for the Ascot defence to handle.
Things got a bit tense at the end with both teams really going on the attack but despite the 100 mph end to end action Hungerford held on are the reward a home quarter final against MK Dons!
